Our inspiration is rooted in the Anglo-American folk music of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Crossing the ocean in the 18th century, settlers from England, Scotland and Ireland carried with them familiar songs from their homelands. The musical tradition that evolved was further enriched by African-American influences, as displaced cultures converged at the frontier of a new world.

We have been deeply influenced by the work of singer/songwriter and folklorist John Jacob Niles (1892-1980) who, while capturing the essential experience of these songs, interpreted them through the lens of his own personality.

Weaving stories of class and cultural differences, landscapes, parting, and love, these evocative songs remain as relevant to our world of migration, uncertainty and displacement as ever.
